Chris Christie Will Make Law Enforcement Top Priority, Protect Pension Funds from Corzine's Budget Gimmicks, Risky Investments
PARSIPPANY, NJ - Today, PBA and law enforcement members from across New Jersey fought back against Jon Corzine's lies and false claims, standing with Chris Christie for governor because of his commitment to the men and women on the front lines keeping our communities safe. Members of the law enforcement community set the record straight, calling Jon Corzine's claim that Christie would take away their pensions absolutely untrue. Chris Christie spent the last seven years in law enforcement working day in and day out with the very people who put themselves in danger in order to keep New Jersey's communities and families safe. These dedicated men and women stand with Chris because they know his first priority is the safety of our citizens and ensuring law enforcement has the tools and resources they need to do their job.
"For Governor Corzine to lie in an attempt to scare us is shameful and not the kind of leadership we need," said Mickey Donovan, Chief, Monmouth County Sheriff's Office and past President of PBA Local #256 and Local #50. "Chris Christie has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us in law enforcement to make New Jersey safer and he understands the dangers our police and first responders face daily. I stand with Chris because he will prioritize our pension and training funds to ensure that we can continue to do our important work."
Chris Christie said, "While I have put forward proposals to cut taxes and cut spending so we can bring change to New Jersey to make it more affordable for families, I have repeated time and time again that the pension agreement made with our police officers must be respected. It is a sacred trust. Nothing will change for the pensions of current officers, future officers or retirees in a Christie Administration."
"Jon Corzine has put his Wall Street buddies in charge of our pension funds," said Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano. "What's worse is that Governor Corzine has done nothing to hold his buddies accountable when they lost hundreds of millions of dollars from our pension funds, while skipping vital payments to the fund. We need a governor who will put our policemen and women first and make sure their pensions are secure. Chris has been a long-time partner and advocate of the law enforcement community, and he has my vote because he has a real plan to protect our pension funds and put New Jersey on solid footing again."
