A veteran sheriff’s deputy died Wednesday evening while training at the shooting range.
Sgt. Tim Olsovsky came to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office in 1996 after serving in the Hallettsville Police Department for 11 years.
He became ill during his second relay of shooting. He told other deputies on his patrol shift that he wasn’t feeling well and sat in his truck to cool off, Sheriff T. Michael O’Connor said in a news release.
After several minutes, he said he was feeling better. He later became unresponsive, the sheriff said.

The Emergency Medical Service was called to the firearms range where medics treated the deputy and transported him to Citizens Medical Center.
Medical staff worked to revive him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m.
Olsovsky likely died of a heart attack, according to preliminary autopsy results from the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, said Justice of the Peace Annie Ramos.
Olsovsky was 51, so family members were shocked by his death, his older brother Anthony Olsovsky said.
“It was untimely,” the Houston resident said. “He was too young to die.”
Anthony Olsovsky remembered his brother as a kind person who wanted to help others. That influenced his decision to go into law enforcement.
Olsovsky was a pleasure to work with, Ramos said.
“This guy was a real nice guy,” Ramos said. “Always a gentleman. Always polite.”
The sheriff agreed.
“Tim was an intense person who was committed to his family, his community and his brotherhood. He is deeply missed by us all,” O’Connor said.
Olsovsky, a Victoria native, enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughter, who is a freshman at Texas A&M University, his brother said.
“Many times we’d have a visit and I’d think, ‘Man, I’m proud of him,’” his brother said. “I love him and I’m going to miss the heck out of him.”
