Fla. Cop Allegedly Kills Self As Mistress Is Found Dead

Deborah Buckhalter
Jackson County Floridan, Marianna, Fla.

--
Oct. 25--A Chattahoochee police officer shot himself to death Friday as police were discovering the body of his long-time mistress buried in a shallow grave near his home east of Chattahoochee, according to Chattahoochee Police Chief Vann Pullen.
Lt. Barry Moore, who is married, quickly became a suspect in the disappearance of Antoinette Ross after a witness reported she was seen voluntarily getting into Moore's police cruiser at her home in Quincy late Wednesday night.
She was expected home that evening and never returned.
Police believe Moore killed Ross in the early morning hours Thursday, but do not yet know her exact cause of death as an autopsy in pending.
Pullen said authorities believe Moore learned that Ross had been on a date with someone else earlier Wednesday evening, and confronted her.
Gadsden County authorities, who were still searching for the missing woman, contacted Pullen around noon Thursday with information about Moore and Ross being seen in the cruiser together in Quincy.
Pullen immediately suspended Moore for taking the cruiser out of his jurisdiction and using it for personal business. Moore's service revolver was also confiscated.
Meanwhile, one of Pullen's officers reported something unusual that happened during Moore's overnight shift, which began Wednesday evening.
The officer said he had pulled up next to Moore in the Florida State Hospital cemetery, and that Moore inexplicably sped away.
A search of that area turned up nothing suspicious. The search then focused on Moore's residence. At this point, Moore was on suspension.
According to Pullen, Moore and Ross had an ongoing relationship for at least 10 years, and had a 3-year-old child together.
No further details were immediately available.

Ok, my ONLY question in all of this... How the HECK do you have a child with another woman while you're married and no one else knows about it? I call this the Monday Stumper. lol

Woman Uses Stun Gun on State Trooper? Talk about role reversal

Story courtesy of a lot of places on the web lol

FARMINGTON MAINE— Police say a 65-year-old New Sharon woman assaulted a state trooper with a 975,000-volt stun gun during an investigation into possible animal hoarding at her house on Lane Road.

Carol Murphy pleaded not guilty in Franklin County Superior Court on Thursday to assault on an officer, criminal threatening, refusing to submit to arrest and criminal use of an electronic weapon. She was being held at the Franklin County jail on $10,000 cash bail or $100,000 worth of real estate.

State Animal Welfare Program staff and Maine State Police seized at least 40 domestic and farm critters, including a donkey, two alpacas and a pot-bellied pig, at Murphy's house on Thursday.

"We found a lot of animals," Animal Welfare Director Norma Worley said. "Forty at minimal; maybe more."

Murphy is under a court order that bars her from keeping animals at her home.

In 2004, nearly 70 animals were seized from her property, most of them living in her house and garage. In 2005, she was convicted of animal cruelty and possessing animals without permits. Murphy was sentenced to six months in jail, with all but 24 hours suspended, and one year of probation. She was fined and ordered to pay restitution, as well as prohibited from possessing any animals for the rest of her life.

State Trooper Aaron Turcotte, who was not seriously injured by the shock to his head and neck, went to the house Wednesday after a representative from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals asked police to check on Murphy.

Turcotte wrote in an affidavit that when he arrived at the house he saw several roosters walking around outside and Murphy walking toward her car. He told her he had a warrant for her arrest and asked if she needed to lock her home. She shook her head and walked into her house, he wrote. The warrant was issued for unpaid fines and fees in connection with the animal cruelty conviction in 2005.

After Murphy had been inside for five minutes, Turcotte said he opened the storm door and knocked on the inside door and it partially opened.

"I could smell a strong odor of feces coming from inside the home," he wrote. "I could hear what sounded like several dogs barking from inside."

When Murphy finally came out with her back to him, Turcotte held the door for her because he thought she was having some difficulty.

"At this time, I felt something striking my face and neck, jolting me," he said, and he saw a black object in her hand. "I could then hear the noise being made from the black object and realized I had been shocked by a stun gun on the face and neck," he wrote.

Turcotte said he ordered Murphy to drop the stun gun, which she refused to do and began to advance on him. He used pepper spray on her and grabbed her by the arms, pulling her to the ground. She continued to resist, but he was able to handcuff her, he said.

Murphy was arrested and taken to the Franklin County jail in Farmington on Wednesday. Her house was watched through the night by state police, Trooper Samuel Tlumac said from the road in front of Murphy's property on Thursday.

A donkey could be heard braying and a dog was barking. There were roosters in a pet carrier in the driveway.

State veterinarian Christine Fraser carried a large animal crate to the house from a vehicle parked on the road. The animals were to be taken to shelters around the state, Worley said.

Random Thought

Ok, so i'm sitting here at work, working, and i have this random thought.. well actually it was a picture in my mind of getting pulled over by a state trooper and when he approached my car window say "hey! future bruthu-in-law how are ya doin today" totally throwing him off guard.

I'm sorry but that's funny in my mind lol.
Because technically that blue family will be my in-laws lol, well kinda sorta

That is all
and yes, that's 30 seconds and a mouse click you won't get back

Entire Police Force Quits After Winning Lottery

This is just funny.. i'm sorry. lol

The entire police force in the town of Budaƶrs, Hungary, quit after winning more than $16 million (Ft 2.2 billion) in the lottery.
The group of 15 officers presented their lottery ticket and quit on the spot, a story by the Telegraph said. Each of the lucky winners will receive a little more than $1.1 million (Ft 200 million) in winnings. Police chiefs have culled together back-up units to serve the region until more full-time officers can be recruited, the story said.
Hungary's lottery requires the winner to pick five out of 90 numbers on the ticket correctly, and each ticket costs the equivalent of $.50. The winning numbers were: 15, 28, 51, 52 and 73, according to various reports. It was the sixth biggest win in Hungarian lottery history, the Telegraph story said.

Another Commercialization Exposed: I hate the color pink anyway

I make it a POINT not to purchase anything that has a pink ribbon on it. My biggest disgust is Golf gear for women. Just because we are women doesn't mean we all like PINK. If i want to donate i will donate to foundations that are legitimate. Buying a hat, or a cozy for my beer, or a pen from the corner store does not, in any way, make a statement about a donation. I hate people jumping on bandwagons
"just because". My Mom is a survivor, but it doesn't mean i go out and purchase hats, shirts, ribbons and such. When i make a donation i make it to Susan G. Komen or a "like" foundation.

Pink overload: Are companies taking advantage of Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

by Dory Devlin, Shine staff, 23 hours ago

The reds and oranges of changing foliage may be the traditional colors of October, but pink is gaining on them fast as this month marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month. NFL players are wearing pink cleats and sweatbands, pink food is everywhere, and store aisles are awash in a sea of pink products, many bearing the familiar pink ribbon that signals breast cancer awareness and fund raising. But here’s the thing: Buying pink does not always mean your green will go to cancer research.

If you buy a cleaning product adorned with pink packaging and the ubiquitous breast cancer pink ribbon, for example, that pink ribbon is unlicensed and unregulated, so any company can use it, leaving the real work to consumers to figure out if the products they buy will really help the cause. Take Proctor & Gamble’s pink ribbon-bedecked Swiffer mop. Daily Finance’s Aimee Picchi reports that although the words “early detection saves” accompany the Swiffer’s pink ribbon, simply purchasing the mop will not help fundraising efforts. Proctor & Gamble told Picchi that the company will make a two-cent donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation only if a consumer uses a coupon from its brand saver coupon book, which could only be found in newspapers on Sept. 27.

"If the label says, 'Money will go to support breast cancer,' well, what does that mean?" Barbara Brenner, the executive director of advocacy group Breast Cancer Action, tells Daily Finance. "If it says it will support breast cancer awareness without being specific, it's not going anywhere."

Meanwhile, many companies that do give generously to breast-cancer fund raising efforts cap their donations, the Boston Globe notes in this extensive piece, "Sick of Pink," even if sales of pink-adorned products are strong and bring in more than expected. Partners of the Texas-based Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which raised nearly $50 million last year from more than 250 corporations that gave Komen some proceeds from product sales, are required to tell consumers on their product packaging how purchasing their products will help Komen, and whether the company has a minimum or maximum donation.

Pair heightened consumer awareness with growing outrage among women breast cancer survivors over the overly pink, overly sweet, over-commercialization of breast cancer, and you could have the makings of an anti-pink backlash. Author Barbara Ehrenreich was one of the first to give voice to outrage over the infantilization and commercialization of women’s breast cancer experiences in her 2001 Harper’s Magazine essay, “Welcome to Cancerland.” She wrote of the cornucopia, starting with teddy bears, of “pink-ribbon-themed breast-cancer products."

"You can dress in pink-beribboned sweatshirts, denim shirts, pajamas, lingerie, aprons, loungewear, shoelaces, and socks; accessorize with pink rhinestone brooches, angel pins, scarves, caps, earrings, and bracelets; brighten up your home with breast-cancer candles, stained-glass pink-ribbon candleholders, coffee mugs, pendants, wind chimes, and night-lights; pay your bills with special BreastChecks or a separate line of Checks for the Cure. 'Awareness' beats secrecy and stigma of course, but I can't help noticing that the existential space in which a friend has earnestly advised me to "confront [my] mortality" bears a striking resemblance to the mall.”

On her blog, The Assertive Cancer Patient, Jeanne Sather also decries the pink-themed commercialization. She leads a “Boycott October” movement to put an end to the often misleading merchandising of the disease. “I keep hoping that each year will be the year that the tide turns, and women say ENOUGH to pink-ribbon Tic Tacs, pink-ribbon laundry soap, pink-ribbon panties, and all the other pink merchandise that appears every fall,” she writes on her blog.

So what’s a caring consumer to do? Breast Cancer Action’s “Think Before You Pink” campaign suggests five questions you can ask before laying down cash for a pink-tinged product. Number one: “How much money from your purchases actually goes toward breast cancer, and is the amount clearly stated on the package?”

You can also bypass products altogether and donate directly to organizations that give directly to cancer research and help women with cancer and their families. Here are a few:

It's Just Sad

So I decided, moving forward, that i will no longer post an end of watch as it happens. Most people following my blog already visit the sites in which this information is found. I will only do my home state - God forbid, as it happens.

What i will do is, at the end of the month, list the officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice for that month.

So for this entry i will link the entire list for 2009. May all of these Officers Rest In Peace, may their legacies live on, and may their families and friends find peace in their sorrow and loss.

The List is courtesy of the Officer Down Memorial Page
